My Space etc

Looking at the blog from Stephen Abram, it made me realize that there are so many more possibilities for libraries to use social networking environment. He knows how to keep the attention of the reader with some interesting observations like the part where he mentions that he is out already by creating a myspace account where his daughter is already on to the next phase. It is difficult to keep up with teens "ins and outs", they grew up in such a different environment that they are faster in changing their minds than I was when I was a teen.
The most interesting part in his writing is the use of social networks for library use. How is is that myspace creates a 150.000 accounts a day? This is more difficult that obtaining a library card, and yet libraries don't have a 150.000 patrons lined up every day for new cards.

Second life is something that has to be explored but maybe at a time where I don't have a 10 page paper due. It sounds mighty interesting especially for those who are online for the majority of their free time and have some time to spare.

More RSS

Today was more difficult than yesterday's exercise. Looking at my favorite websites for an RSS feed is easier than trying to locate it with the search engines suggested on the 27 things website in lesson 8. There were not any unusual feeds but it was more frustrating to see that there are websites that do not offer the possibility of an RSS feed. I could not find it on the Seattle Public library's site either, so we are not that far behind.
Hopefully I'll have time to add pictures again to my blogs next week, looking for the feeds took more time than I expected this week.

RSS

As a person who does not have a favorite website that includes checking it daily, it was difficult to understand why I would want to pick any RSS feed on a page. No my Bloglines account has alread 18 feeds and I could add many more just from the readers website. It could definitley occupy some of my time would it not been that I spent that time on homework. The great thing will be that I do not have to check my e-mail anymore for my favorite cartoon.

The advantages
Libraries can use it on their own website to inform patrons of interesting new reads instead of sending the e-mail, and it could be a way to solve the overload of e-mails patrons receive from the library. For staff it would be handy also in that same way. Since we are planning to set up our own blog for LTA matters here it could be an easy way of checking what is new LTA wise in the southend.

More pictures

These pictures are amazing, so many, so many colors, so many words to spell, it could take a lot of time. One of the sites took an amazing long time to develop (Montagr) and I did not make my own trading card yet maybe something for the future.

The drawing your picture site came up with interesting photographs that are nowhere near what I drew but still fun to look at. The picture above was the result of drawing a smiley face.

Flickr

Today was flickr day. A site I could spent hours on end exploring. The interesting thing was that I rolled from one topic into the next. It basically took me on a tour through my home country and than I came up with topics that would not hit millions of pictures like the town I grew up in, or "koningin Beatrix" and it still came up with many photographs. Interesting ones but also less interesting ones. Then I thought of my favorite band coldplay and thought a bunch of Chris Martin pictures would show up, but people are much more creative than i give them credit for. There were beautiful pictures that are related to song titles.

The first picture is from andrebernardo.com and the second one Knepomuk
I could not finish this blog without a pug eye from dionna1976
Graphically I have to figure out how to make this more appealing!!!
